WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH DONATIONS TO CONTINUE OUR CHARITY EFFORTS
MICA Potomac Chapter hosted its 20th Anniversary Charity Golf Tournament, “The LTG Tom Weinstein Golf Classic,” on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club. Despite heavy rain the night prior, “Mother Nature” cooperated once again by bringing the typical 90 degree temps, sunny skies, and humid air, typical of a Northern Virginia summer. Under the management of Mr. Tim Cooligan, General Manager, and Mr. Fritz Diekman, Course Pro, and their grounds staff, the course was beautiful. Without a cloud in the sky, promptly at 0800, 54 teams, comprised of 216 Corporate, Government Civilian, Military, and Wounded Warrior golfers started an amazing round of golf on the two 18-hole courses while enjoying a fun-filled day of competition and camaraderie.
As noted above, this year’s event was particularly special and in honor of LTG Weinstein, MICA Potomac arranged to have Mrs. Pauline Weinstein, the Honorable Halee Weinstein (daughter), and Mr. Michael Weinstein (son) present at the tournament where they all received special recognition during the lunchtime ceremony by the U.S. Army G2, LTG Scott Berrier and MG (Ret) Gregg Potter, President, MICA Potomac.
Additionally, four charities that are recipients of the tournament’s proceeds were also recognized in a ‘big check’ presentation. Those charities include:
* Links to Freedom: Ft. Belvoir Wounded Warrior Golf Program
* Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF)
* Veterans’ Fishing Adventures
* HHD, 1ST IO Command (Land) Family Readiness Group.
MICA Potomac will also provide a donation to MICA National to assist in the generation of academic scholarships for active Military Intelligence soldiers and their families. Through the support of corporate sponsors and esteemed friends of the Army Intelligence Community, the tournament helped MICA meet its goals for providing academic scholarships and for supporting several wounded warrior-based charities. Whether you were a legacy sponsor or a new participant, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for supporting this exclusive event!
Sponsorships and donations are the primary means of generating revenue to support our charity programs, therefore, we wish to again especially thank our corporate and other generous sponsors . . . without your help we could not do this every year.
MICA Potomac is a 501(c)(3) organization, tax ID# 74-2477077, and any corporate sponsorship or monetary donation is 100% tax deductible.

The morning began early with registration and a full hot breakfast buffet, sponsored by CACI. Additional support sponsors included the Charity Golf International, Dixon Golf, Fort Belvoir Golf Club, SOSi, and SRC, Inc., with four beverage carts provided by The Buffalo Leidos, Perspecta, and Red Gate Group. Volunteer soldiers supported the operation and proceeds from beverage cart donations went to the 1st Information Operations Command (Land), Headquarters & Headquarters Detachment (HHD) Family Readiness Group.
Prizes were awarded to 1st, 2d, and 3rd place winners on each course, and to the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin winners as well. While all players had the opportunity to win hole-in-one prizes including $10,000 or other prizes ($1000 in AMEX travel awards, $500 Callaway Golf Gift Card, OMNI Homestead Trip for Two, Omni Bedford Springs Golf Trip) on par-3 holes, there were no lucky winners this year — maybe due to the Bloody Marys at breakfast???? Even so, one of the most popular aspects of this tournament is the final ‘giveaway’ event. Each player receives a ticket for playing in the tournament, an additional ticket for purchasing a mulligan package, and can purchase additional tickets. Through donations from individuals, defense corporations, and commercial entities, MICA Potomac was able to give away 72 items valued at over $16,000!
Needless to say, a lot of folks went home VERY happy!
